About Facilities Services

Facilities Services employs over 400 people to provide building and grounds maintenance to a large university (over 23,000 students). Our mission is to provide a safe, functional and aesthetically pleasing campus that is conducive to the delivery of education.

Facilities Services is made up of three divisions. Facilities Planning (FP) coordinates all capital projects, interior design, and space assignment on campus. Facilities Management (FM) hosts the administrative support functions for the department. It also runs the operational areas such as the plumbers, carpenters, electricians, grounds, painters, recycling, movers, garage, and building services. The Office of Energy Management (OEM) keeps the university buildings comfortably warm or cool as weather dictates, and operates the Heating Plant. OEM also coordinates all energy savings measures and purchases utilities for the campus.

Facilities is recognized for excellence in service, as a partner in solving problems, and as the provider of choice for maintaining University buildings and grounds. Facilities’ goals are updated annually to reflect the goals and mission of the University as defined in Educating Illinois. Each Fiscal Year’s goals are posted in public areas throughout the department. We welcome you to read them and make decisions that reflect the goals of your unit and those of Facilities Services.
