Grounds

The Grounds Department is responsible for the maintenance of 400 acres of our 970 acre campus, which includes 140 acres of turf, 20 miles of sidewalks and 88 parking lots, which accommodate nearly 78,000 vehicles over 66 acres. With a staff of 21 full-time and 5 seasonal employees, Grounds Service provides support and service to the entire campus. In addition to mowing, litter control, and snow removal activities, the department installs an average of 200 shrubs and 100 trees per year. It raises over 16,000 flowers for planting in over 30 beds and provides superior athletic turf in 7 competitive fields.

The department has been innovative in exterior maintenance practices with the use of prairie grasses in highly erodable areas and perennial flower bed incorporation.
