Energy Projects
Lighting Replacements
In progress, installation will be completed June 30.
- Stevenson – Replaced 1,500 T12 classroom lights with T8 lamps and electronic ballasts, installed 100 motion sensors, mostly in restrooms, and placed 100 incandescent lamps with energy efficient fluorescent bulbs.
- DeGarmo – Installed 160 T8 lamps, 10 sensors, and 75 exits.
- Lights also replaced at: Stevenson Hall (47), Center for Visual Arts (41), McCormick Hall (30), Fell Hall (45), Hovey Hall (21), Metcalf Lab School (75), Student Recreation Building (15) and Bone Student Center (25), with about 300 more exit lights to go in other classroom buildings.
- Installed 550 compact fluorescent bulbs and 25 motion sensors at Bone Student Center and Braden Auditorium.
Still to come:
- Light replacements at Centennial East, Centennial West, Center for Visual Arts, Horton Field House, and the Lab Schools.
Steam Trap Replacements
In progress, installation expected to be complete in June.
- Replaced 21 of 39 traps at South Campus so far. The University will see savings from reduced maintenance, reduced steam consumption, and more efficient heating. Payback is expected to be less than one year.
RO Water to Heating Plant
In final design, out for bids with installation this summer.
- Instead of dumping RO water at Science Lab Building, pumps, tanks, and distribution piping were added to deliver RO water to Felmley Annex and the Heating Plant. Storage tanks, pumps, and controls will be installed at the Heating Plant to allow RO water to be used as boiler make-up water. This will save on cost of labor and materials for extensive water treatment, as well as reduce overall water costs and energy costs to the University. Payback is expected to be less than two years.
Damaged or Missing Insulation
In process to be bid, installation expected to be complete this summer.
- Contractor to install feet of pipe insulation, as well as duct insulation and custom fitted insulating blankets for valves, fittings, and equipment. Work will be in residential housing units and utility tunnels throughout campus.
